GST Registration Online - An Overview
Any business in India, offering supply of goods with annual turn over of Rupees 40 lacs or suppply of service with annual turn over of Rupees 20 lacs would require the registration for GST. However that threshold in the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand is Rupees 20 lacs for supply of goods and in States of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura is Rupees 10 lacs for of supply of services . Small businesses, having turnover below the threshold limit can, however, voluntarily opt to register. Also GST Registration is mandatory for businesses dealing in inter-state and ecommerce activities.
What is GST Registration?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive, value-added tax that has been implemented in India since July 1, 2017. It is a significant reform of the country's indirect tax system, and it replaces a number of taxes, such as VAT, sales tax, and excise duty. GST is levied on the supply of goods and services, and it is intended to create a single, unified market for the whole country.
One of the main objectives of GST is to simplify the tax system and reduce the compliance burden for businesses. Under the previous tax regime, businesses had to deal with a complex web of different taxes, each with its own rules and rates. This made it difficult for businesses to comply with the tax laws and resulted in a high level of tax evasion. GST aims to streamline the tax system and make it more transparent, which should help to reduce the compliance burden for businesses and increase the efficiency of the tax system.
Another key benefit of GST is that it is expected to boost economic growth by improving the ease of doing business in the country. By creating a single, unified market, GST should make it easier for businesses to operate across state borders and expand their operations. This should increase competition and lead to lower prices for consumers, which should stimulate demand and boost economic growth.
Benefits of GST Registration
Business becomes 100% Tax Compliant and is legally recognized as supplier of goods or services
Business is legally authorized to collect tax from their customers and pass on the credit of the taxes paid on the goods or services supplied to the purchasers/ recipients.
Business can claim input tax credit of taxes paid on the purchases / procurements and can utilize the same for payment of taxes due on supply of goods or services.
Business can freely do interstate deals with no restrictions further increasing their customer base.
Business can register on e-Commerce marketplaces and portal slike Amazon, Flipkart etc.
Easy approval of mudhra loans as GST fillings will serve as a proof of transactions.

Essentially, it allows businesses to offset the GST they have paid on their inputs against the GST they are required to pay on their outputs.
The Input Tax Credit can be claimed on the GST paid on inputs, input services and capital goods, it can be claimed only when the GST return is filed by the supplier and the same is reflected in the GST return of the recipient.
